As a Christmas gift, my wife arranged a 2-day workshop for me with Kim Vines using soft pastels to create portraits.  This proved to be a revelation.  Kim's informal hands-on approach to teaching small groups in her own studio enabled me to easily pick up and enjoy using pastels to create the images below.
