The family connection with the Royal Navy is strong. My grandfather served in both World Wars being at all the major North Sea actions. My father-in-law served in WWII in the Mediterranean and Far East and my son serves today.

With the happy coincidence that my grandfather’s last ship was HMS Forth and my son had just finished commissioning the latest HMS Forth, I decided to try my hand at capturing images of naval ships using oils. I began with a series of views of the latest HMS Forth during sea trials. As a result of the paintings being displayed at the Commissioning Event for HMS Forth in Portsmouth at the end of April, I was asked by Commodore Craig Wood to look at the ships he had commanded with a view to creating an image of all three at Gibraltar.
